MSC Helmet

This is Michael's helmet from 2000-2006

Michael Schumacher is statistically the best driver F1 has ever known. He has broken nearly every record in the sport, and has a career that has been so colourful with ups and downs. He has had many controversial scares that may have lost him everything. Howevr, behind the helmet, he was said to be another man. A caring person, a great father, and a generally friendly, social person. The 16 years he was in the sport has brought him limelight from the very beginning, but not always for the right reasons.

His career

His first steps (1969-1990)

Michael started out like any other driver: in karts. Except he started a lot earlier than most-at the age of 4. But he mastered it and won his first championship at only 6. He then progressed until he reached F3. He came 3rd but challenged for the most prestigious race: Macau, China. There,. he ahd his famous crash with Mika Hakkinen on the last lap to gift him the win. This propelled him into a driver for Sauber touring cars in 1990. He won the championship that year, and got a test drive for a new F1 team, Team 7UP Jordan. When Bertrand Gachot got a prison sentence for spraying CS gas in front of a London taxi driver's face, he got the green light to go for a race drive.

Stunning debut (1991-1993)

Michael had claimed before that he had never driven there, but knew the track very well. However, when it came to qualifying, the world stopped to see him start 7th on the grid. After this, he came out of his pit garage to find swarms of people to catch a word with Geramny's newest star. The news spread all across the motorsport world, and F1 watched intently to see his next move. Unfortunately, the car let him down, as he didn't even get through the first corner as a clutch problem stopped him.

But this didn't stop Flavio Briatore snapping him up for the rest of the season, driving for Camel Benetton Ford. This showed what talent he had, as in every race he managed to complete, he scored at least a point, and ended up with 4 points overall.

Things got only better in 1992. At the start of the season, and for most of it, he was fighting for the minor podium placings and the higher points finishes. In South Africa, he finished 4th and went one better in both Interlagos and Imola. He then kept on getting 2nd places after 2nd's until in Belgium, exactly a year since his debut, he won his first Grand Prix.
